Trip Highlights
What to expect on this trip
Fly Direct from Zanzibar A scheduled charter flight connects Zanzibar to Arusha in under an hour — no international connections, no lost days. You land, get straight into a vehicle, and you're on safari before lunch.
Elephant Giants of Tarangire Tarangire holds one of Africa's densest elephant populations. Dry-season herds crowd the river in their hundreds, threading through baobabs that have stood for a thousand years.
Ngorongoro — The Big Five in One Bowl You drop 600 metres onto the crater floor — a sealed world 19 km across where lion, black rhino, elephant, buffalo and hippo share the same enclosed plains. Nowhere in Africa packs the Big Five into a more reliable space.
Flamingos & Tree-Climbing Lions at Lake Manyara Lake Manyara ends the safari on a high — thousands of flamingos along the alkaline shore, blue monkeys in the groundwater forest, and the tree-climbing lions that have made this small park quietly famous.

Zanzibar → Arusha → Tarangire National Park
Zanzibar → Arusha → Tarangire National Park
Your morning is still Zanzibar's — breakfast by the ocean, no rush. The charter flight to Arusha takes less than an hour, and your guide meets you airside once you land. There's no time wasted: bags go in the vehicle, introductions are made, and you're on the road south toward Tarangire within the hour. The park announces itself quickly — ancient baobabs on the skyline, the river threading green through dry plains, and game gathering along the water within minutes of passing the gate. Tarangire is elephant country above all else; whole herds crowd the riverbanks in the dry months, sharing the water with giraffe, zebra, impala, warthog and a birdlist that tops 550 species. You spend the afternoon following the river circuit as the light turns gold, then leave the park as the sun drops and transfer to your lodge for dinner.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
An early breakfast, then the drive climbs into the Ngorongoro Highlands — cool, mist-covered hills where montane forest closes in and buffalo appear at the roadside. At the rim you get your first look down into the caldera: a vast, green-floored basin stretching 19 kilometres across, sealed on all sides by walls that rise 600 metres. The descent feels different once you're inside it. The crater floor is a self-contained world — the animals have everything they need and rarely bother to leave, which is exactly why wildlife density here is unlike anywhere else in Africa. Lions rest out in the open. The crater offers some of East Africa's most reliable black rhino sightings, a species that's disappeared from most of the continent. Elephant, buffalo, hippo, wildebeest and zebra fill the plains between them. You break for a picnic lunch at the hippo pool, fit in a final sweep of the floor, then climb the rim road and turn toward the Ngorongoro Highlands for the night.

Lake Manyara National Park → Arusha → Zanzibar
Lake Manyara National Park → Arusha → Zanzibar
The last morning of the safari takes you down from the highlands to Lake Manyara — compact in size but full of surprises. The park sits between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the alkaline lake, and the transition from dense groundwater forest to open floodplain to shimmering lakeshore happens fast. It's worth taking slowly. Move through the forest zone first: baboon troops, blue monkeys, and the park's tree-climbing lions — occasionally found draped across fig branches just metres above the road. Out on the floodplains, thousands of flamingos gather along the alkaline shore alongside pelicans, storks and herons, and over 400 bird species have been recorded here. After a final game drive and a packed lunch, you leave the park and head back to Arusha for the return charter to Zanzibar — landing in time for a sunset drink on the beach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Travel Info at glance
What should I wear on a safari day?Wear lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (like khaki or beige) to stay cool and blend into the environment. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, so bring a light jacket.
What time do safari game drives usually start and end?Morning game drives typically start around 6:00 AM and last 3–4 hours, while afternoon or evening drives begin around 3:00–4:00 PM and return by sunset. Exact times may vary depending on the season and your lodge’s schedule.
Is it safe to go on a safari?Yes, safaris are safe when conducted by professional guides who follow park rules. Always remain in the vehicle unless instructed otherwise and avoid sudden movements or loud noises near wildlife.
Will I see all the Big Five during my safari?Sightings vary and are never guaranteed as animals roam freely. However, with experienced guides and multiple game drives, your chances of spotting the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—are high in many national parks.
What should I bring with me on a game drive?Bring binoculars, a camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, and a small snack. Your guide may also provide some of these items, but it’s best to come prepared.
