Trip Highlights
What to expect on this trip
Three Parks, Zero Compromises Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro back to back — the northern Tanzania circuit in full, with enough time in each park to actually experience it rather than just pass through. No rushed game drives, no cutting corners.
Two Nights in the Serengeti A night in the Serengeti tented camp after a full game drive and then out again at dawn for another — that's the extra day that makes the difference. You get the morning light, the predators still active, and the plains in a way a single visit never delivers.
Inside the Ngorongoro Crater You descend into a 19-km-wide volcanic caldera that hasn't been open to the sky for millions of years. Lion, black rhino, elephant, buffalo and hippo share the sealed floor below — the most concentrated Big Five habitat on the continent.
Materuni: Waterfall, Forest & Fresh Coffee Day five takes you off the beaten safari trail entirely. Kilimanjaro's lower rainforest, a 70-metre waterfall, and a Chagga family roasting, grinding and brewing coffee from their own garden. It's the kind of morning that stays with you long after the flight home.

Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park
Manka Safaris collects you from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and heads south. The conversation in the vehicle is easy — introductions, expectations, what everyone is hoping to see — and by the time Tarangire's gate appears two hours later the group is already a group. Step through that gate and the park does the rest. Tarangire is unlike anywhere else in northern Tanzania: the landscape is older somehow, the baobabs enormous, the riverine bush thick and full of noise. Elephant after elephant appears — whole families making their way to water, young ones stumbling through the scrub behind their mothers, bulls standing alone in the shade. By the time you reach the lodge in Karatu for dinner, day one has already delivered more than most people expect.

Into the Serengeti
Into the Serengeti
Today is mostly transit, and worth every kilometre. You climb into the misty Ngorongoro Highlands, drop over the far side, and suddenly the country opens up — wide, flat, pale gold, and stretching further than your eyes want to go. This is what the Maasai called Siringet: the place where the land runs on forever. You reach the Serengeti around midday and stop for a packed lunch before the afternoon game drive begins. Your Manka Safaris guide drives you into the Seronera area, the predator-packed centre where the rivers attract everything, and the drive goes wherever the animals take you — a lion kill in progress, cheetah cubs learning to run, a thousand wildebeest moving as one. Your camp that night is inside the park, the sounds of the Serengeti as your soundtrack.

03 Day 03
A Full Day in the Serengeti
A Full Day in the Serengeti
This is the day most safari itineraries don't give you — a full day with nowhere else to be. You're out before the light arrives, when the Serengeti is still cold and the predators are on their last hunts of the night. Manka Safaris gives you the whole circuit: Seronera's riverine woodlands for leopard and baboon, the open kopjes for lion prides, the vast short-grass plains for cheetah and the migration if the timing is right. Lunch is served in the field. The afternoon takes you wherever the morning's tracks lead. You're back at camp for sunset with the kind of day that's nearly impossible to rank — too many things happened, all of them good. Dinner around the camp feels well earned.

Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater
You leave the Serengeti at first light and drive east, climbing back into the Ngorongoro Highlands as the mist comes off the hills. At the rim you stop — not for long, just enough to understand what you're about to drop into. The crater is vast from up here, 19 kilometres of floor visible all at once, and the animals are already moving far below. The descent takes twenty minutes and lands you in a world the rest of Africa doesn't quite have: lions who have never needed to learn to hide, a black rhino population that actually holds its numbers, hippos in open pools, elephant crossing open grassland. Your Manka Safaris guide reads the crater brilliantly. You spend the day on the crater floor, and after a picnic lunch at the hippo pool it's back up the rim road in the afternoon and straight to Arusha. Tomorrow is completely different.

Materuni Waterfalls & Chagga Coffee Tour
Materuni Waterfalls & Chagga Coffee Tour
Nobody wants a five-hour airport wait. Manka Safaris gives you something better. The drive to Materuni village takes about an hour from Arusha, climbing up into the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro where the air is cooler and the vegetation closes in. A local Chagga guide meets you at the village and leads you into the rainforest — proper forest, moss-covered and full of birdsong — on a trail that climbs steadily for forty-five minutes until the waterfall appears: 70 metres of water dropping into a clear pool with the mountain above. Swim if you want. Then back to the village for the coffee ceremony — picking ripe cherries from the garden, roasting them over fire in a clay pot, grinding by hand, brewing, and drinking it right there where it grew. Lunch follows. Then a transfer to Arusha, Moshi or the airport — wherever you're headed next.

Frequently Asked Questions
Travel Info at glance
What should I wear on a safari day?Wear lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (like khaki or beige) to stay cool and blend into the environment. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, so bring a light jacket.
What time do safari game drives usually start and end?Morning game drives typically start around 6:00 AM and last 3–4 hours, while afternoon or evening drives begin around 3:00–4:00 PM and return by sunset. Exact times may vary depending on the season and your lodge’s schedule.
Is it safe to go on a safari?Yes, safaris are safe when conducted by professional guides who follow park rules. Always remain in the vehicle unless instructed otherwise and avoid sudden movements or loud noises near wildlife.
Will I see all the Big Five during my safari?Sightings vary and are never guaranteed as animals roam freely. However, with experienced guides and multiple game drives, your chances of spotting the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—are high in many national parks.
What should I bring with me on a game drive?Bring binoculars, a camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, and a small snack. Your guide may also provide some of these items, but it’s best to come prepared.
