Trip Highlights

What to expect on this trip

Elephant Giants of Tarangire Your first afternoon sets the tone: Tarangire holds one of the densest elephant populations in Africa, and in the dry months the herds pile down to the river in their hundreds, weaving between baobabs that have stood for a thousand years.

The Endless Plains of the Serengeti The Serengeti is the wildlife spectacle that needs no introduction — open grasslands stretching to the horizon, prides of lions on the prowl, cheetahs scanning from termite mounds, and, depending on the season, the great wildebeest migration sweeping across the plains.

Ngorongoro — The Big Five in One Bowl On your final morning you drop 600 metres onto the crater floor — a walled-in world 19 km across where lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo and the rarely-seen black rhino live side by side. Nowhere in Africa packs the Big Five into a smaller, more reliable space.

Comfort in the Right Places You spend your days chasing wildlife and your nights somewhere that earns the rest — a lodge with a proper bed and a hot shower at Mto wa Mbu, then two permanent tented camps with en-suite bathrooms, real beds under canvas, and dinner cooked fresh on site. You feel the wild without roughing it.

    Day 01

Arusha / Moshi → Tarangire National Park

Your guide picks you up after breakfast in Arusha or Moshi, and once introductions are done it's a two-hour run south to Tarangire. The park announces itself the moment you pass the gate: ancient baobabs break up the skyline, and the river threads a band of green through the dry plains where game gathers within minutes of arrival. Tarangire is elephant country above all — in the dry months whole herds crowd the riverbanks, sharing the water with giraffe, zebra, impala and warthog, while the birdlist tops 550 species. You'll spend the afternoon following the river circuit, then leave as the light turns. Tonight's lodge sits in gardens just outside Mto wa Mbu: a warm shower, a comfortable room and a proper dinner round off the day before the early start for the Serengeti.

    Day 02

Tarangire / Mto wa Mbu → Serengeti National Park

Today is a travel day with a payoff. After breakfast you climb into the Ngorongoro Highlands, then drop down the far side as the country flattens into the short-grass plains the Maasai named Serengeti — "endless plains." There are stops to stretch and photograph along the way, and you'll usually roll through the park gate around midday. From the gate you game-drive your way toward Seronera at the park's centre, and this is cat country at its best — lions stretched out in the shade, cheetahs poised on termite mounds, leopards folded into the riverine trees. Time it right and you may hit the wildebeest migration, a million animals on the move. You settle for the night at a permanent tented camp in Seronera: standing-height tents, real beds, en-suite showers, and dinner under canvas with the plains murmuring just beyond the lamplight. All meals are included.

    Day 03

Serengeti National Park → Ngorongoro Highlands

You're out at first light, when the air is cool, the cats are still hunting and the low sun does the photography for you. The morning is given over to one last Seronera game drive, free to linger wherever the plains deliver, before you swing back to camp for breakfast and to pack up. Come afternoon you point east out of the Serengeti, game-viewing across the plains as the track climbs toward the Ngorongoro Highlands. The grassland gradually surrenders to cool, mist-wrapped montane forest, and you reach the rim with daylight to spare. Your tented camp is perched right on the crater edge — a heated tent, a proper bed, a private bathroom, and a hot dinner waiting once the chill arrives. Pack a warm layer, because the altitude bites after dark; the reward is waking with the whole crater spread out beneath you. All meals are included.

    Day 04

Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha / Moshi

Breakfast comes early on the rim, then you drop down the access road into the crater itself — a descent that lands differently once you're inside it. Down on the floor sits a sealed little world, 19 kilometres wide and ringed by 600-metre walls, with enough water, grass and shelter that its animals rarely bother to climb out. Few places concentrate wildlife like this. Lions doze out in the open, and the crater offers some of East Africa's most dependable black rhino sightings — a species clinging on elsewhere — sharing the floor with elephant, buffalo, hippo and big herds of wildebeest and zebra. You break for a picnic lunch, fit in a final game drive, then climb the rim road and turn for Arusha or Moshi, where the trip wraps up. Breakfast and lunch are covered today, and we can arrange transfers to Arusha, Moshi or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Travel Info at glance

What should I wear on a safari day?

Wear lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (like khaki or beige) to stay cool and blend into the environment. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, so bring a light jacket.

What time do safari game drives usually start and end?

Morning game drives typically start around 6:00 AM and last 3–4 hours, while afternoon or evening drives begin around 3:00–4:00 PM and return by sunset. Exact times may vary depending on the season and your lodge’s schedule.

Is it safe to go on a safari?

Yes, safaris are safe when conducted by professional guides who follow park rules. Always remain in the vehicle unless instructed otherwise and avoid sudden movements or loud noises near wildlife.

Will I see all the Big Five during my safari?

Sightings vary and are never guaranteed as animals roam freely. However, with experienced guides and multiple game drives, your chances of spotting the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—are high in many national parks.

What should I bring with me on a game drive?

Bring binoculars, a camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, and a small snack. Your guide may also provide some of these items, but it’s best to come prepared.
